NW3 Maths Hub is now recruiting for our: SKTM (Specialist Knowledge for Teaching Maths) programme for Secondary Non-Specialist Teachers. 

This is a full programme of PD for non-specialists that are teaching maths in your department this year.

Core Maths Teachers Professional Development

CORE MATHS TEACHERS PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT:

Core Maths Pedagogy Workgroup 2021-22

We would like to invite you to join our 2021-22 professional development Work Group for Core Maths teachers in the Maths Hub NW3 area (Knowsley, Liverpool, Sefton, St Helens and Wigan).

A Work Group is a particular model of professional development where teachers work collaboratively to plan and implement their own PD requirements using the support and expertise of colleagues from North West Three Maths Hub and the AMSP (please see attached information and below for further details).

In 2021/22, all Maths Hubs will organise communities of schools following the Mastering Number Programme. This programme will develop solid number sense, including fluency and flexibility with number facts, which will have a lasting impact on future learning for all children. The programme will also involve high quality professional development for teachers.

Each Maths Hub is now seeking to recruit schools to join the Work Groups for this programme. The document gives information about the Work Groups and how schools can apply to be involved.

NW3 Maths Hub will be accepting applications from schools in the following areas: Wigan, Knowsley, Liverpool, Sefton and St Helens

Who can apply? 

Any primary school can apply, and there are thousands of places. NW3 will be offering 200 places. Should the programme be oversubscribed, priority will be given to schools with the highest levels of disadvantage.

N.B Schools in Mastery Readiness, Development and Embedding Work Groups for 2021/22 should prioritise their existing teaching for mastery commitments and therefore should only apply if they feel they have the capacity to commit to both programmes.

Expectations of participating schools 

Schools chosen to participate in the Work Group commit to the following expectations:

•    The school will introduce Mastering Number in all Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 classes, in addition to their daily maths lesson (which could be shortened as a result of participation in this Work Group)

•    Teachers will be expected to contribute regularly to an online community led by the Work Group Lead, reflecting on the implementation and impact of the programme, as well as attending two, more formal online sessions, during 2021/22

•    Participants in the project will engage in all online synchronous and asynchronous professional development, including three live sessions, throughout the academic year

•    The school will provide any feedback required by the Maths Hub and participate in any evaluation processes required.

Funding 

There is no charge to schools participating in the programme. Resources will be provided for each school, in order for them to teach daily sessions of the Mastering Number Programme.

How to apply 

Schools interested in applying to be part of a Work Group in 2021/22 should complete the application form attached and submit it, by email, to NW3 Maths Hub Lead- Lisa Bradshaw and/or Sarah Makin (Senior Administrator).

Y7 Maths Transition support FREE ACTIVITIES and PD

A year’s worth of Year 7 maths activities to help teachers assess understanding and lay foundations for KS3!

I would like to draw your attention to the NEW Y7 Maths activities (checkpoints) these are FREE RESOURCES to help teachers assess understanding and lay foundations for KS3.

The webpage for the Checkpoints activities is now live. It includes three sample PowerPoint slides and a link to sign up for the first of the professional development seminars. To help with sharing the page, it has the short URL www.ncetm.org.uk/checkpoints.

In addition to these checkpoints, we are hoping that teachers in KS2 and 3 will join a Y5-8 Continuity Work Group. This is FREE Professional Development being offered by Maths Hubs to model how to use these resources and the NEW – Integrating evidence into mathematics teaching EEF guidance.

If you wish to join a Y5-8 Continuity Work Group NW3 Maths Hub will be offering localised groups covering Knowsley, St Helens, Sefton, Liverpool and Wigan (See flyer and newsletter attached to find out more).

NCETM School Development Lead – NW3 Maths Hub recruiting now! FREE

NW3 Maths hub and NCETM are now recruiting for a new National Collaborative Programme to start in 2021-22- NCETM School Development Lead 

Outline: This project aims to support mathematics leads whose role is to lead change in a school or group of schools other than their own. 

NW3 will be accepting applications from maths subject leaders in St Helens, Knowsley, Sefton, Liverpool and Wigan. 

What is involved? 

It will provide a regional support programme through a series of three days of workshops (face-to-face and online), practice development activities, and an online community. The face-to-face workshops will run regionally across England.

Participants undertake to plan, lead and evaluate a school development initiative for a school or group of schools and to record their planning, evaluation and reflection in an Accreditation Evidence Document.

Successful completion of the programme and satisfactory completion of all tasks and related paperwork will result in the participant being accredited as an NCETM Accredited School Development Lead. 

Who can take part? 

The programme is for teachers leading change in a school or group of schools other than their own, and will benefit those who have previous experience of developing leadership capacity in schools/groups of schools or who are new to the role.

What are the benefits? 

Participants will: 

  • support schools, groups of schools or MATs to establish sustainable cross-school approaches to collaboration and development for maths teaching
  • start to use collaborative Work Group models as one of their school development strategies
  • evaluate and review the effectiveness of maths school development models
  • develop skills in driving improvement in maths, including developing the capacity of school leadership of maths
  • know and understand of the challenges and barriers to school development in maths and how to tackle them

know and understand effective approaches to teaching maths, including teaching for mastery.

What is the cost? 

The School Development Lead Programme is fully funded by the Maths Hubs Programme so is free to participating schools.
